Artistic background

I am a self taught artist who has been painting for over 20 years. Using oil paints and gouache, I paint colourful till lifes and florals exclusively from life. My work in inspired by my immediate surroundings, I strive to seek beauty in the mundane. Since I paint directly from life, my work captures light in a way only the human eye can perceive.

Each work of mine starts with a tiny spark of inspiration - a moment where light falls on an object, a certain colour combination that I want to study or sometimes even a personal challenge that I undertake. I then painstakingly collect objects that align with my vision and spend hours coming up with a pleasing composition. The painting then comes to life in my studio. I work alla prima, or wet on wet, which keeps my work expressive and fresh.
