A contemporary panoramic landscape painting exploring stillness, distance and light.
Sky in Retreat emerged intuitively through many layers of acrylic, texture and expressive mark-making in my Dorset studio. The painting speaks of those quiet moments where the world softens — where land, sea and sky seem to pause together in silence.
Soft blues, pale turquoise, warm ochres and muted greys create an atmospheric palette filled with calm and openness, while the textured foreground and sweeping pathways invite the viewer gently into the landscape.
This semi-abstract coastal scene balances atmosphere with structure, allowing the emotional feeling of the painting to take precedence over literal detail. The panoramic composition creates a strong sense of spaciousness and contemplation.
Painted on a professional deep edge block canvas, the artwork continues around the sides and does not require framing, allowing for a clean contemporary presentation.
