Meditations in Light Series
There are moments when the landscape seems to hold its breath—those fleeting transitions when the first light begins to emerge through layers of cloud, colour and atmosphere. Sky in Awakening was inspired by one of those quiet moments, when the world feels suspended between what has been and what is about to unfold.
Painted as part of my ongoing Meditations in Light series, this original acrylic painting is an exploration of light as an emotional and spiritual presence. Rather than depicting a recognisable location, it invites the viewer into a contemplative landscape where sea, sky and atmosphere become a place of reflection, peace and possibility.
The composition is intentionally dominated by the sky, allowing sweeping cloud formations to become the true subject of the painting. Layers of soft blues, lavender greys, blush pinks and warm peach tones move gently across the canvas, drawing the eye towards a luminous horizon where light quietly begins to awaken. The low coastline anchors the painting without competing for attention, creating a wonderful sense of openness and spaciousness.
This work was painted intuitively during a day spent working at Unity Gallery in Andover, where the atmosphere of creativity and quiet concentration became part of the painting itself. Each layer of colour was allowed to emerge naturally, resulting in an artwork that feels both expressive and serene.
