Description
Illumination Nr 3 in the Maria Magdalena Series
A Radiant Study of Divine Feminine Energy
Illumination emerged during a period of heightened creative flow. The series had moved from surrender and ascent into embodied light. The feminine presence no longer stands in shadow — she radiates.
The Work
A windswept tree, ablaze in crimson and gold, bends yet does not break. Behind it, a full luminous moon anchors the composition. Movement and stillness coexist.
Gold leaf fragments catch the light, creating shifting highlights throughout the day. The branches stretch dynamically across the canvas, symbolising resilience, spiritual fire and rooted wisdom.
The palette is intense — deep purples, ember reds, flashes of green — yet harmonised within a controlled composition.
Material & Craft
Mixed media on canvas with layered pigment and hand-applied gold leaf. The surface alternates between impasto texture and softened transitions, characteristic of Brown’s expressive approach.
Significance
Illumination represents strength within vulnerability — the embodied feminine in her power.
A rare and singular work within the series.Presented in a gold Tray Frame

Series Provenance
The Maria Magdalena series was born from a deeply personal calling.
In 1946, Marja Brown was given the name Maria Magdalena by her father — decades before Mary Magdalene was widely reconsidered as a spiritual equal, close companion of Christ, and initiated presence within early Christian tradition. At that time, her story was still largely shaped by misunderstanding and distortion.
Over the years — through painting, spiritual study, and lived experience — the quiet resonance of that name began to surface. This series is not an illustration of doctrine, but an act of remembrance. A reclaiming of strength, devotion and embodied wisdom.
The four paintings unfold as a visual journey: Sacrifice, Ascension, Illumination and Love.
