Description
On the Importance of Taking One’s Time is part of my Wonderland series, in which familiar literary archetypes are reimagined as contemporary psychological figures. The painting depicts a caterpillar-like character seated atop a mushroom, engaged in the ritual of smoking a hookah. Rendered in a muted, atmospheric palette, the work balances stillness with subtle tension.
The figure’s composed posture and measured pace suggest a kind of performative authority, evoking individuals who occupy space with quiet confidence while remaining elusive or opaque. The surrounding landscape recedes into a dreamlike dusk, allowing the character to dominate the scene without overt action.
Both contemplative and quietly ironic, the work invites reflection on presence, perception, and the social dynamics of certainty.
