Description
You're Not Looking At The Correct Piece is a direct commentary on my Magical Realism and Gothic Horror painting practice. With my usage of the zombie genre and decaying flesh to spark discussion on mental health, LGBTQ+ and disability representation, this piece acts as a test to see where people's focus ends up on the canvas. Whether they focus on the severed human head or the parade of zombies in distress below. Zombies are usually only used in stories as a Hitchcock MacGuffin, so this piece puts that into question at to WHY. Also, whether that is in fact correct or false. It's a fairly light hearted piece alone, but much more powerful when paired with my other works. Zombies or reanimated corpses in my practice can represent the disabled, neurodivergent, mentally unwell or the LGBTQ+ community, whilst humans contrast that as representing the able-bodied, neurotypical, cis/straight people.
