Description

Postage Stamp Image
This is the fourth of a series of canvases depicting Pop Art ladies with retro telephones calling famous artists. Some are humorous; some make a statement concerning the environment or cultural and diverse subjects. The use of ambiguous imagery to convey perception was developed by Belgium artist René Magritte. The Pop Artist asks you to see common objects in a new light whereas Magritte uses language (his titles) to mislabel objects and further he would replace an object with a word. In this picture I have made a play on Magritte’s famous bowler hat as a common symbol to attract the attention of the audience to comprehend and question what they see. In keeping with the other pictures in this series this canvas contains approximately 1500 postage stamps with the addition of acrylic paint to complete the picture.
