Description
This image is composed of approximately 3000 used postage stamps. I was inspired by Gauguin’s Primitivist style of painting and intense colour. Tahitian beach scenes were a very popular setting towards the end of his life. In this artwork, I combine elements of primitivism and realism through a collage technique. The variety of different stamps gave me a huge colour palette to create my work. My piece portrays serene yet strong figures, immersed in their own world yet universally relatable, radiating a quiet dignity. This artwork echoes the beauty of simplicity and the profound narrative of everyday life in Tahiti in the late nineteenth century.
