Artistic background

Margarete De Araujo, also known as Murta, born in Brazil in 1983. Since childhood, I had contact with art, watching her father paint and he would always give me something to paint. A self-taught artist, working with mixed media, my preferences are acrylic, Posca pen, and oil on canvas.
I am a multifaceted artist; in 2008 I founded Murta, a skate brand and lifestyle. Initially, I promoted skate competitions with the aim of uniting communities through art and sport. Inclusive stage for musicians, graffiti artists, and dancers reflecting the artist's spirit of connection. During my journey through various regions of Brazil, in 2014 I met the Krahô indigenous people and spent 3 years in a cultural immersion seeking to learn the native language and observing their customs and the teachings of Krahô culture.
I currently live on the Isle of Wight, England, where I have found a new and powerful source of inspiration in the island's maritime landscape and its rich local culture, which directly influences my work. I have sought to create fantastic and imaginative narratives in the Hybrid Murta Universe to merge worlds through colour and resilience.

Quote

This fusion of universes, from the organic to the urban, from the ancestral to the contemporary, from the savannah to the sea, is the force of the universe that drives me to paint.
