Art is a quiet kind of connection — a dialogue between the artist and the public, and a second connection is made when the work meets the viewer.
The Medium: Mostly, I use classical materials to create my artwork, such as linen or cotton canvases on a stretcher, or stretched canvas on cardboard. I work with acrylic paint, gesso primer and cover the final painting with lacquer for protection and durability.
The Why: My core motivation is to create impressive artwork as a timeless monument of the moment. I use impressionist techniques to produce vibrant paintings full of light and dark tones to seduce the viewer to go back in time to when the work was created. The main themes of my work are landscape, flora and abstract transformations of the surrounding environment.
The conceptual ideas are to preserve the moment's beauty in nature's cycles, nature's seasonal movements and landscape transformations.
To show the beauty of the surrounding flora. To introduce the moment of the surrounding environment and the ideas around us as transformations, playfully reflected in my artistic work.
The How: My creative process is not just a technical sequence — it’s a narrative. Every gesture, constraint, and material choice becomes a symbolic layer. Physical process shapes the meaning of an artwork because the way I make something becomes part of what it communicates. The method is never neutral — it leaves traces, rhythms, and decisions that viewers read, even subconsciously.
Material behaviour — Acrylic dries fast, forcing decisive marks. That urgency becomes part of the emotional tone of the piece. Thick texture suggests resistance; smooth surfaces suggest control or calm.
Gesture and movement — The speed, pressure, and direction of my strokes encode mood. A tight, controlled hand reads differently from a loose, sweeping motion.
Repetition and routine — Repeated marks imply rhythm, structure, or sometimes obsession. They can echo architectural patterns, which aligns with my design background.
Physical limitations — The size of the canvas, the reach of my arm, the tools I choose — all impose boundaries that become part of the final visual language.
Interaction with space — Working on a small 20×20 cm canvas (like Small City Vibes 3) forces intimacy and precision; working large encourages physicality and immersion.

Artistic background

Paulius Stankevicius is a contemporary acrylic painter and a designer based in the United Kingdom. Driven by a curiosity for the intersection of nature and urban life, the vibrant chaos of everyday moments, and environmental transformation, Stankevicius turns these moments into abstract compositions, creating work that is both tactile and visually engaging. Their practice explores harmonic colour relationships, soft tones, environmental transformations and stories of human connection, inviting viewers to pause and look a little closer at the world around them.
Largely self-inspired and taught by their formal studies in design at Vilnius Art Academy, Stankevicius developed an early fascination with acrylic painting on paper and graphic design. This foundational interest evolved into a dedicated studio practice centred on hard, layered acrylics on canvas. Over the years, their work has been shaped by impressionism, modernism and a background in industrial design, with a deep love for local landscapes, giving their pieces a distinct sense of story and place.
Stankevicius has exhibited work in various local, independent and regional galleries and collaborative spaces, including Academy Gallery and Contemporary Art Centre. Their pieces are held in private collections across Vilnius, Lithuania. When not in the studio experimenting with oversized brushes and lined textures, Stankevicius is actively involved in collaborating with independent brands and exploring nearby nature trails for inspiration.
