The Sweetest Shade Oil

When I paint trees I'm always aware of the space around them. Where they are growing and the backdrop of the sky are just as important.

The clouds layered onto ultramarine and cerulean blue are always dry before I add the trees. This allows for a crispness at the branch tips. It's a one shot, and I may do ten paintings before I'm happy. I paint the trees with small rags, a spontaneous use of oils that give an organic depth and texture. I feel there is a cheerful vibe to the painting, hence the title...
