Description
The image of the castle was taken in. the early morning from the rocks on Embleton beach and slightly South of the castle. The walk-in began at 6.15am, with me stumbling in partial darkness across Dunstan Steads and skirting the edges of the golf course, whilst trying to get down to the rocks below before the sun came up; this to allow me to catch the pre-dawn colours. Once the tripod was in place and the camera set, I began the lengthy process of shooting the scene while trying to create the hazy / misty effect in the waves by using long slow shutter speeds.
The Castle is a firm favourite of photographers visiting Northumberland and was even painted by none other than JMW Turner in the1790’s.
For the more technically inclined:
Camera: Nikon D300, Sigma 17-70mm lens and a shutter speed around 25 sec.
Date: August 2008
Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland
