Description
Tribute to Bridget Riley
A Postage Stamp Image
This picture is composed of approximately 2,500 used postage stamps which are available in a huge range of colours and designs.. The stamp colour here however is Black, with some post marks still visible on close observation. This picture was created on quality deep edge canvas. It is not framed and should not be displayed in direct sunlight although all canvases are varnished twice and have a coat of U.V. protection. Some white paint has been used to heighten the difference between the tones.
I have created several versions of M.C.Eschers’ visual illusions and thought it would be interesting to attempt one of Bridget Riley’s. Her work has won widespread international recognition being one of today’s leading abstract artists. In my ‘Tribute to Bridget Riley’ I have used one of her early pieces of work called ‘Movement in Squares’ to recreate the intense optical disturbances related to many of her designs. Stamps here have been carefully cut in half, into quarters and even cut again to gain the optical illusions.
