Description
This painting is from the series, 'Food on my mind', featuring children from different ethnicities, each focused on a specific type of food. The surreal nature of the series emphasises the reality of a global common obsession with food. Regardless of age or gender, increasingly children dream of the same types of foods. Paradoxically, it can also be said that thinking about certain foods can revert adults back into childhood.
The paintings come in different sizes because children, as well as adults come in different sizes. Instead of painting some children more robust than others, I preferred to enlarge/reduce the size of the painting. Whilst the surreal nature of the paintings reveals a global phenomenon, the series depicts individuality by painting some children in colour and some in black and white.
